Adventures with Vultures wsg Carrie McFerrin & Co.

Adventures With Vultures:
A folk singer-songwriter evokes a certain image. Matt Sauter breaks that image. With his backward ball cap, knuckle tattoos, and knee-shredded shorts, the lone singer/songwriter behind Adventures with Vultures tinkers with the image of what a folk singer should be. Adventures With Vultures’ Matt Sauter, who was a mere 24 years old when he signed with Original 1265 Recordings, hails from Plymouth—a small town that sits roughly 25 miles outside of Detroit. That location is crucial to his music: a rural area outside a major city. After all, like all good folk music, Adventures With Vultures’ songs are about specific places and the people who give those places their personality. Stylistically, it’s different from what Sauter is used to—he spent the better part of this decade writing hip-hop music, not folk music. Mos Def and J. Cole are cited among his influences, but so are Carol King, Shakey Graves, and Nathaniel Rateliff. Perhaps that’s why Adventures With Vultures brings a welcome, abrasive quality to tender, stripped-down songs.

“The Junction EP isn’t just a project for me,” he states, “it’s for my family that I grew up with in Plymouth, MI. It’s for all the years of making music with my brothers who gave up the same dream I’m still chasing. It’s for all the nights recording at my buddy Fritz’s house until 5am and all the nights playing shows in front of 5 people. This EP is for all the nights writing lyrics and mastering my craft. It’s for Plymouth, Junction street and all the groups I once played with: GATSBY, Second In Line, Here For The Fight and Morte Novella and Real MIT Records. I’m not done chasing my dream, it’s been the same damn dream since the 2nd grade!”

A folk singer, it is true, evokes a certain image. Meet Matt Sauter—an invigorating folk singer who will change that image.

CARRIE McFERRIN:
“Kalamazoo’s Sweetheart” Carrie McFerrin has been a staple in the Michigan music scene for almost a decade. She brings a fierce country twang with an indie twist that is sure to give you the warm fuzzies and kick you in the teeth at the same time. She captivates a room within her first few notes, showcasing her swanky twang, old country style. Her stage presence is a force full of wit and hilarity as she shares stories about her life and inspired songwriting. Recently nominated for the WYCE Jammies and recording on a Kalamazoo Arts Council grant, Carrie is now performing with a stellar cast of Michigan music veterans. Be sure to catch a show…and watch your teeth.

Chandler Reed & the Sticky Keys | Lighting Matches

10pm | $5 | 21+

Chandler Reed & The Sticky Keys:

Imagine an endearing piano ballad - but with guitars and too much coffee. They make computers, websites and Powerpoint presentations - But as lifelong musicians, they pour their passions into music.

You’ll hear a blend of original and cover tunes with a piano pop spin. You may hear some Beach Boys, Michael Jackson, or even Hamilton. They draw influences from Jack’s Mannequin, Ben Folds, Weezer, The Classic Crime, Fun., and other pop rock geniuses.

YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdj90F0bz4dCwl-fe-LG1aQ

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chandlerreedmusic/

Stream: https://fanlink.to/chandlerreedmusic

Lighting Matches:

They call themselves an alt-rock band, but let's be honest - their style is wherever the music takes them. Each song has a life of its own, a different story to tell, a different vibe. Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and made up of musicians with a variety of musical backgrounds, they set fire to the lines and limitations of genre labels.

Fronted by dynamic duo (and real-life couple) Matt Plessner and Rachel White, their debut album "Against The Flame" displays lots of what they're best known for: thought-provoking lyrics and tight harmonies, accompanied by a pretty stellar backing band. Adam Parada (also of Melophobix), brings a truckload of talent on the keyboards and bass.
